The border terrier is really a small, rough-coated breed of dog of the terrier group. Originally bred because fox and vermin hunters, Border Terriers discuss ancestry with Dandie Dinmont Terriers, [1] Patterdale terriers[citation needed] as well as Bedlington Terriers.
The breed is very much older, the Border Terrier was officially recognized by The Kennel Club in great britain in 1920, and because of the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1930. The border terrier was bred to have long enough legs to maintain up with the horses and other foxhounds, which traveled with him or her, and small ample bodies to crawl in the burrows of foxes as well as chase them out hence the hunters had a new blank shot. The foxhounds that traveled with him or her were not small enough to do the border terrier puppies task.
